About The Artist

I seek to create art that submits itself to a higher purpose. Each work begins as a charcoal drawing of one simple element, recently, my own body and ordinary objects. These drawings are humble and unremarkable by nature, and they bear the imperfection of my human touch.

I photograph each drawing and bring it into Photoshop, where it is transformed. Here I draw on a large personal archive of photographs gathered over the years, mostly in my local area: seascapes, skyscapes, and land seen from above. Through multi-layering and digital manipulation, I combine the two. This is the most experimental phase, and I am often surprised by what emerges.

I am deeply interested in ancient Christianity, and I seek to see the world and Christ with the light of the patristic fathers, who read the Bible as a web of images and patterns that modern understanding has flattened. Layering is my way of searching for those connections. I feel our modern vision has been veiled, and that true life, almost too bright to look upon, is treated as mundane. My work seeks to imbue the ordinary with a beauty we would otherwise struggle to see.
